Halton Recycling Figures Up - 15 October 2009
New figures released show Halton households have increased the amount of waste they recycle in the past year. The borough's recycling rate has gone up from 25% to 28% during 2008-09.
This means Halton Borough Council has met the first of its three year targets set by the government.
Following the approval of its waste strategy, the Council agreed increased performance targets of 28% by 2008/09, 31% by 2009/10 and 34% by 2010/11.
This summer thousands of more homes in Halton received an improved kerbside recycling service offered to them, as part of a promised rolling programme of investment in kerbside recycling.
Cllr Phil Harris, Executive Board member for recycling, said: ‘’A big thank you goes to those people who have been using the recycling services offered by the Council.
"As of this autumn 85% of households in Halton will have the opportunity to recycle at the kerbside and remaining homes will be offered a service during next year.
‘’We are now on track to meet the targets set for us and hopefully exceed them if more people choose to recycle.’’
